Franklin Apprenticeships Partners with UMBC to Jump Start IT Careers

Franklin Apprenticeships is pleased to announce the launch of a pre-apprenticeship training program in partnership with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). UMBC’s IT and technology programs are among the most highly regarded in the nation.

Thanks in part to sponsorships from the states of Maryland and Missouri, we’ve initiated a five-week IT pre-apprentice program, conducted virtually to allow students to learn remotely. Candidates successfully completing the program achieve a CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+) certification, an important baseline qualification in the field of IT services.

Pre-apprentices commit to four hours per day, four days per week, mastering the necessary skills for the CompTIA certification. The fifth day of each week is devoted to “soft skills,” the professional polish required to interview well and shine in future interactions with co-workers and customers. In addition to the in-course instruction, each student is guided and monitored by a Franklin Apprenticeships Personal Success Coach.

Early results from this pre-apprenticeship program have been outstanding, with 20 graduates from each cohort session now prepared to continue on a full, paid apprenticeship career path. The candidate pool reflects a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, and the program is on pace to achieve more than 100 graduates by mid-September 2020.

Franklin is excited to offer this new entry point for IT career seekers, and to help build the pipeline of well-qualified candidates for in-demand, high-paying positions.
